Fartboy #1: The First Sniff
Adam Wallace, James Hart, 2020
Seemingly innocuous, silly, gross and whatever else the name of these books implies, the Fartboy series, almost more than any other I’ve done, has seen me getting emails and letters from parents joyously stating their child had not enjoyed reading but now, after discovering Fartboy, have a love of reading and are searching for more and more books to read. That is it right there. That is the joy of writing. That is the secret sauce.
Adults who want their children reading “literature” and who abhor comics or grossness or what children are actually hanging to read, are robbing their children of that potential lifelong love of reading.
I was almost put off reading by being forced to read books I hated and found boring. It was thanks to my step-dad, who encouraged me to find books I loved and to read those, that I am a lifelong reader (3 books at once!).
I write for children. If adults come along as well, that’s beautiful, but if not, well, it can’t be helped.
