Rachel Herz
Rachel Herz, PhD is a neuroscientist, world-leading expert on the psychological science of smell, and at the vanguard of propelling scent science into the future. Rachel is a TED speaker, on the faculty at Brown University, and a professional consultant to various aromachemical industries and in the legal sector. Rachel loves to write and to date has authored over 100 scientific articles, several textbooks, and three acclaimed popular science books: The Scent of Desire: Discovering Our Enigmatic Sense of Smell (2007; Harper Collins), That’s Disgusting: Unraveling the Mysteries of Repulsion (2012; W.W. Norton & Co) and Why You Eat What You Eat: The Science Behind Our Relationship with Food (2018; W.W. Norton & Co). Beyond these pursuits, Rachel is energetically involved in outreach, advocacy, and education on smell, taste and flavor, and the future of smell-based technology, as well as walking her dog. Rachel is also a regular guest on podcasts, has her work featured in films and TV, and is frequently interviewed by The New York Times, NPR, The Wall Street Journal, and the BBC.
