Mary Soderstrom
Mary Soderstrom is a Montreal-based writer of fiction and non-fiction with eight works of non- fiction, three short story collections, six novels and one children’s book to her credit. Against the Seas: Saving Civilizations from Rising Waters (Dundurn Press, 2023) is her 18th book and is the logical follow-up to her last, Concrete: From Ancient Origins to a Problematic Future (University of Regina Press, 2020). At the moment she is working on a new short story cycle, and a novel, tentatively called The Last Bridge. In addition, she has another non-fiction project simmering, tentatively called Thanks to the Memories: How What We Remember Can Get Usthrough the Next 75 Years..
A native of the West Coast, she moved to Quebec decades ago and has long considered it home. Nevertheless, she has traveled widely, and those experiences enrich her work. So does a lifetime of reading everything she can get her hands on, and—most of all—being curious.
