Maggie Brookes
Maggie Brookes has been writing all her life, as a local paper journalist, BBC historical documentary producer, creative writing academic, Royal Literary Fund Fellow, novelist and poet. She relishes uncovering stories about the strength of women and the power of friendship and love in the most terrible of circumstances. Her two historical fiction novels are published around the world by Penguin Random House. Acts of Love and War is a heartrending tale of love, courage and sacrifice, following three young British volunteers in the Spanish Civil War. The Prisoner's Wife is based on an extraordinary true story of WW2. Maggie has had six poetry collections published under the name Maggie Butt. Wish, her New and Selected poems, is due to be published in January 2025 under the name Maggie Brookes-Butt.
