Jennifer J. Merz

I am an artist, illustrator, and picture-book writer/illustrator. I divide my time between New Jersey and the coast of Maine. My books are traditionally published by Dutton and Clarion; I've self-published through Jennuine Books.

My handcrafted collages are made from textured papers, fabrics, and trimmings. Painting and drawing figure prominently in my work and I like to mix media to achieve my visual goals.

I enjoy doing book signings and offer a children’s presentation: “From Brown Bag to Picture Book”. Do you have a picture book idea you’d like to develop? I help adults realize that vision with classes on Creating Children’s Books.

My education includes an MFA in Illustration from the Fashion Institute of Technology, NY, a BA in Studio Art and Elementary Ed, and an MA in Art Education.

I’m a proud member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI), the Author’s Guild, Scribble (SCBWI’s Rockland/Bergen Affiliate), and co-founder of Springboard Artists as well as Board Member, Website Coordinator, and an active member of the Community Arts Association, Allendale, NJ.
