The gentle rhymes and repeated ‘Teddy Beddy Bear’ at the end of each verse make this an easy go-to choice for bedtime, pleasing to parent as well as child, and the colorful pictures are sure to capture the attention of very little ones before they can truly understand the reassuring story. A great baby shower gift, it is my go-to for such events.

As well as the stunning Scottish setting and gentle mystery, it is the characters and breathtaking illustrations that I love most about this book. The illustrator, Anna Smith, has perfectly captured the true colors of Scotland in the fall, whilst Beth McClure’s animal characters leap off the page at you. A dog lover’s dream, plus an unexpected mystery set on the Royal Balmoral estate, this is a satisfying read for ages 3+. Even Queen Elizabeth appears! Heavenly.

This laugh-out-loud rhyming book about a flatulent cat is both silly and heartwarming at the same time! Not my usual genre, I resonated with the feline longing of the little girl in the story being immensely satisfied yet surprised at the unusual nature of her new furry companion. Breezy is just too adorable, I would love to read more of his windy escapades in future. Pegs on noses, of course!

Not only has the author written a simple but hauntingly evocative tale, her own watercolour illustrations make this chapter book extremely special. A true British classic fantasy in the same genre as Alice in Wonderland or the Narnia tales, this short book (6,000 words) is the perfect introduction to a chapter a night for 7-year-olds+. The sweet main character and her daring mushroom saviors are a breath of fresh air in contemporary children’s fiction. I adored this book immediately.
