Pride and Prejudice

Jane Austen, 2001
My favorite of all time. In fact, I've read it more than twenty times. For me, it has it all: charming, hateful, infuriating, funny characters... but all full of depth, sparkling dialogue, a plot that engulfs you and you can't stop reading. There's even incredible sexual tension! "Wait a minute," you'll say to me, "how can you say that when they don't even kiss once? I'm not quite sure how Jane works her magic, but yes, believe me, there is.

Faro's Daughter

Georgette Heyer, 2008
This author is amazing. I chose this novel among all of hers, but I could have chosen many more. A perfect read for a rainy day. The humor that comes through in much of the dialogue fascinates me. The male characters are perfect heartthrobs, with their own quirks of course, and the female characters are perfect heroines, with their own quirks as well. They are all exceptionally well-documented novels that paint a mesmerizing picture of the time in which they are set.

Ain't She Sweet?

Susan Elizabeth Phillips, 2009
This is not a historical romance. Susan is one of my favorite contemporary authors, and she once again captivates me with the hilarious dialogue that abounds in most of her books. You can tell I like humor, right? Also, the chapters begin with quotes from some of my favorite Georgette Heyer novels, and that alone won me over. The story is incredible, a real page-turner, and Colin... I can assure you that he has become one of my favorite male protagonists.

And once again I come back to yesterday. Western novels have always been one of my favorite genres. As a teenager, I devoured the novels of Zane Grey and John O. Curwood, and when this one by Ellen fell into my hands, I fell in love at first sight. Of course, as soon as I finished it, I had to find all the others. When I discover an author I like, I can't stop until I've read all her books. Exciting adventures, a passionate love affair, a wonderful ending... what more can you ask for in a novel?

Blue-Eyed Devil

Kleypas is one of the most popular authors today, and although she is best known for her Regency series, I personally like her contemporary novels best. This one in particular is one of my favorites. The story is harder than the previous ones I recommended, but it is one of those hopelessly engrossing ones, full of intrigue, suspense and, of course, passionate love.
