Five books that made me fall in love with Fantasy Romance

This was one of the novels that kicked off the whole Romantic Fantasy genre. It’s a detailed, original fantasy novel about Yelena, a prisoner who’s offered her freedom in return for becoming the taster for the ruler of her country. There’s mystery, suspense, and a brooding love interest—Valek, her steely-eyed boss who’s keeping a close eye on her. This isn’t a steamy romance, although there’s plenty of tension between Yelena and Valek to keep you turning the pages.

Grace Draven, 2014

This is heartfelt Fantasy Romance about two people from different races, who find love in a world torn apart by war. Brishen and Ildiko are forced to marry for a political alliance and start off by finding each other repulsive. But their blossoming friendship and attraction set against a backdrop of political turmoil is incredibly heartwarming. Their story is emotional and steamy.

This is a delicious Dark Fantasy Romance that blends Viking lore, fae, and pirates in a compelling, steamy tale between a king bent on vengeance and the daughter of his archenemy. A page-turner with richly drawn characters, full of suspense. A must-read for anyone who loves sexy morally grey heroes.
