Buck Rogers in the 25th Century
Addison E. Steele, 1978
Buck Rogers was a reimagined TV series, brought to you by the makers of the
aforementioned Battlestar Galactica, i.e., Glen A. Larson, et al. Again, this is another
childhood phenomena for me, however, again, I was thwarted from watching this
show for other intensive purposes by certain family members, as I was growing up.
There was a huge longing to see it, but alas, there were other scheduling commitments
I had to keep at the time, so the loss was intentionally felt. Again, just like with
Galactica, I found it on TV again, in most recent years, and I finally got to see what I
had missed so long ago. The longing was there, and although I was aware that it
didn’t go down too well at the time, and that its second season had ‘bombed’, I have
finally placed it among my favourite shows of the period. A man from the 20th
century, Buck Rogers, who was an astronaut, had an accident during one of his deep
space missions, and unfortunately, his ship froze in space and he was catapulted
(somehow) to the 25th century. A man out of time, he must now make his way
through this ‘brave new world’.
