The Long Goodbye

For me this is the best of Chandler’s Philip Marlowe books, and possibly the best detective story ever written.

An engrossing detective story set on the US/Canadian border, with an engaging hero in detective Alex McKnight.

Animal Farm

George Orwell, 1990

The same theme as his 1984, but better told and brilliantly entertaining.

A Study in Scarlet

Arthur Conan Doyle, 2007

The one that introduces us to Holmes and Watson, and makes them iconic from the start.

Maigret and the Spinster

Maigret Mystery Series

Georges Simenon, 2003

Any Maigret book is a wonder, and this is a great introduction to him.
