Under the Magnolias

T.I. Lowe, 2021
This is one of my favorite fiction books I’ve read in the last decade. I loved how T.I. dove into the rather touchy subject of mental health, particularly mental health in the 80s in the South. This book was authentic and gritty, and yet it was never unbearable or too much. The cast of characters is phenomenal, drawn with the pen of a master, each one intricate and battling with themselves and their world in real ways. I cared about each one, even (and maybe especially) Austin's father, who does a lot of hard-to-comprehend things. Though this is definitely women's fiction, the romance was just right, as was the beautiful spiritual thread. I can't recommend this book enough.

LADIES OF THE LAKE.

Cathy Gohlke skillfully weaves a dual-timeline story about four women who bear life together through love, hardship, betrayal, and forgiveness. I loved the real-life historical pieces Cathy wove into the story, teaching me history through a story and the major theme of women friendships. A touching, masterful story that will stay with me for a long time.

All That Really Matters

These characters completely leaped off the page for me! I loved the very contemporary problems of a popular social media influencer woven throughout this book and the themes of true worth and identity. Add to that a loveable but flawed hero and a steamy romance and strong spiritual thread and this book is a winner!

Facing the Dawn

You know a book’s good when it causes you to think about it for days after you finished it. This book (and all of Cynthia’s books) are deeply moving and inspiring. I love that this book tackled the hard topic of grief. In it, we see one character’s journey toward healing and new life. A beautiful book that sank into my soul.

Meet Me in the Margins

Sometimes, we just need a good lighthearted read that causes us to flip pages fast and sigh happily at the end. That’s what this beautiful book was for me. I was laughing out loud throughout this novel. I loved the characters and couldn't wait to be with them whenever I got a minute. I highly recommend the audiobook.

I came to this book cautiously, knowing it was a time-travel book, but I was so pleasantly surprised by it that I went on to read the rest of the books in the series. This book was so thoroughly unique and captivating that I was eager to get to it whenever I could. I loved the author’s integration of science and history to create a truly gripping story.

Hope Beyond the Waves
