Godwin (1756-1836) was an English journalist, political philosopher and novelist. First published in 1799, this Tale of the Sixteenth Century was his second novel following on from his successful debut as a fiction writer with Caleb Williams (1794), and is reprinted from the Colburn and Bentley edition of 1831.
