Robert Gildea

Robert Gildea is Professor Emeritus of Modern History at the University of Oxford. He spent most of his career studying French History since the French Revolution, and especially during the Second World War. in recent years, he has explored the legacy of British and French colonialism and the British Miners’ Strike of 1984-85. Beginning as a traditional archival historian, he has branched during the last 25 years into oral history, exploring how people in history tell their own stories.
