Ian Worthington

IAN WORTHINGTON, FSA, FRHistS, is Professor of Ancient History at Macquarie University, and specializes in Greek history and oratory. He did his BA at Hull (UK), MA at Durham (UK) and PhD at Monash University. He was Curators’ Distinguished Professor of History and Adjunct Professor of Classics at the University of Missouri before going to Macquarie in 2017. His research deals with ancient Greek history, especially Alexander the Great and his era, and Greek oratory, on which he has written nine books, two co-authored books, edited nine books, translated two volumes of the Greek orators and written over 100 articles and essays. In addition, he has a ‘Great Courses’ DVD and CD titled The Long Shadow of the Ancient Greek World. In 2019 he was elected Fellow of the Royal Historical Society (London) and in 2020 he was elected Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries (London).
