Even my young reader books have elements of crime. I like them because they tend to be shorter without a lot of back story. My wild childhood, career as a fire rescue officer/investigator, and world adventurer have provided me with plenty of writing octane. I've also played drums in a Big Band, been a smuggler, climbed the Great Wall of China, honeymooned during the ’79 Grenada Revolution, snorkeled with a marlin, and egged an Aussie PM—and as they say, much, much more. I even met my fiancé on a rusted freighter in the South China Sea. My firefighter crime series is unique as there are almost none like it. No cops, lawyers, or PIs. Every character is based on a real person or composite of someone I know or knew at one time. I’ve won a few awards in many genres.
